About Jill

I have been treating disordered eating and eating disorders for over 25 years. Initially, I gained experienced working with eating disorders on college campuses in my role as Administrative Dietitian for ARAMARK. Later, I had an opportunity to join the Renfrew Center as an outpatient nutrition therapist before launching my private practice in New Jersey. I earned my Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS-C) and Approved Supervisor designations from the International Association for Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) in 2016.

Through the years I have built my practice by providing both individual and group nutrition counseling, and experiential learning. Additionally, I have mentored and supervised other nutritionists who have joined my team in providing nutrition care to clients. The creation of the Eating Matters team has enabled our practice to expand services to accommodate a wider range of clients while adding a wonderfully supportive collaboration amongst each other.

People often ask me how and why I am doing this work for so long. It’s a fair question and here is my thoughtful response… “What keeps me going is my drive to help others in recovery end the unnecessary suffering while improving upon their physical and mental health. There is nothing more gratifying than to be part of a collaboration providing nutrition care in a way that impacts individuals so profoundly. Additionally, weight discrimination in the medical field and the pervasiveness of diet culture, has fueled my passion to help those inflicted break free from the harmful patterns they generate. Both, only serve to keep people cycling with diets, negative body image, and disordered eating habits: all being unhealthy practices with negative health outcomes.”

In my free time I enjoy being outdoors with my family and friends. I practice yoga regularly, ski, and enjoy hiking and taking long walks with my awesome Australian Cattle dog, Maple. I enjoy cooking and working on cookbook projects. Please visit our e-cookbooks nesting on this website.

My Approach & Philosophy

Reaching out for support to end the struggle takes courage and I am considerate of that strength. Working with people of all ages, diverse cultures, genders, and those in the LGBTQIA community, I help clients with a variety of eating concerns and provide a safe space for exploring eating and movement patterns. Coordinating care with other providers on your treatment team is important in the recovery process and ongoing.

I am passionate about helping my clients let go of dysfunctional eating behaviors while supporting them in creating an eating pattern that is more flexible and optimizes health and happiness. Offering individual nutrition counseling and supporting family members in the nutrition care process in a non-judgmental and collaborative style encourages trust and willingness to change.

My interventions are informed by both Mindful Eating and Intuitive Eating (when clinically appropriate), Health at Every Size (HAES), the Non-Diet Approach, and the Division of Responsibility in Feeding, which are highly individualized and integrated into my work with each client. These interventions along with food exposures, meal support, and planned food challenges all help to heal disordered eating behaviors as well as put the joy back in eating. Sessions will help you feel more confident as you learn to eat more mindfully and intuitively and make the positive changes that are sustainable and become a lifestyle.
